It was an endless stream of stressed out residents who were seen walking out of the West Heights 3 Tower K in Business Bay this morning due to a water leakage that left half the building without water for nearly 12 hours.

A notice placed at all building entrances stated that a water leakage in the mechanical room on level 14 also resulted in all five elevators shutting down.

A security guard from the tower told Emirates 24|7: “A pipe appeared to have burst around 11pm last night on the 14th floor, causing water to leak into the elevator shafts.

"Due to this, all the elevators are not working and the water supply from the ground floor up until the 34th floor has been cut off."

He added that maintenance workers were currently working on fixing the problem. And while this reporter was on the scene, one of the five elevators had started functioning again.

However, for residents living in the building, it has been a trying 12 hours.

Prakash Malpani, who lives on the 17th floor, was walking out with his wife and children in tow, with bags in hand.

He said: "We are headed to a nearby hotel apartment where our friends are staying, to use the facilities and take a shower.

"While we adults can manage, it's pretty difficult for the children."

Sunaina Kakkar, a resident of floor 34 said: "Thankfully we have a water supply, but the stairs are exhausting. I am not returning until the elevators are working again."

While the lobby has been cleared of water logging, the lack of elevators also forced one resident to abandon his luggage in the lobby until it's functional.
