A major construction project by the Department of Transport will add to the traffic woes of motorists on Abu Dhabi-Dubai road soon.
Rush hour traffic will worsen when parts of the E11 motorway near the Al Samha Adnoc station wil be shut, reports The National. Work is expected to begin before the New Year.
The motorway is being constructed to increase the number of lanes in each direction from four to six along a 4.5-kilometre stretch.
Regular commuters have expressed dismay at the news. The construction will make life harder, they say.
Meanwhile, the Department of Transport says it will create detours and alternate routes, though no information on these has been announced.
In addition to the widening, a new junction, the Sheikh Khalifa interchange, will be built at Al Samha.
The new Sheikh Khalifa interchange will be 10 lanes wide. Another small bridge, similar to the one already connecting Al Samha, will be built to the nearby town of Ghanada.
