Woman promised $5,000 to carry narcotics

Dubai Police Anti-Narcotics Department arrested an African passenger for smuggling 1.543kg of drugs, a top official said adding that she was on a transit flight from Ghana to Jakarta.

Major Mohammed Humaid, Director General of Local Anti-Narcotics Section at the Dubai Police Anti-Narcotics Department said that they received information about this woman from their international connections with other countries.

"We were able to arrest the woman. We found a piece of drug weighing 750 grams wrapped in tissue paper and scotch taped under her clothes. When the airport policewoman arrested her, she admitted of having more drug capsules around her body. She herself took out one capsule which weighted 101 grams."

He pointed out that they also found two more pieces wrapped in plastic in her bag. "One weighted 142 grams and the other one 225 grams in her black trousers."

He pointed out that they referred the suspect to Dubai Hospital, and there, they found eight drugs capsules in her body and the total weight of drugs was 295 grams.

During investigation, the woman said that she did not know about the drugs, and she received them from an African man who promised to give her $5,000 in return of handing these drugs to him in Jakarta Airport.

Major Humaid added that at the beginning of this month, they arrested an African man coming from Lagos and heading to Kuala Lumpur with 490 grams of drugs hidden in the inner part of his shoe heel, and 70 capsules in his body which weighed 1,270 grams.
