Workers moving to public sector get ban

Private sector workers switching to a government job could get a one-year ban under the new labour regulations unless they are included in the three job categories exempted from the ban, according to the labour ministry.

Employees who resign from a private sector establishment must give a one-month grace period to their employers in order to be able to move to the public sector provided the move is approved by the employer.

“In case the employer rejects the resignation, the worker must present a copy of the resignation letter to the ministry of labour and abide by the one-month grace period in his work at the company,” said Saleh Al Jabri, director of the private sector companies at the Labour Ministry.

“After one month, the worker can pursue procedures to move to a government job…but the new labour regulations exempting some workers from the ban will not be applicable on this worker before completing two years of his job with the first employer…in this case, this worker will get a one-year ban unless his educational qualifications allow him to be included in the three job categories that are exempted from the ban.”
