FTC to hike Dh500 traffic fines to Dh1,000

The owners of cars will have the right to tint their car windows up to 50 per cent instead of the current 30 per cent, according to latest recommendation by the Federal Traffic Council.

According to a report in ‘Al Bayan’ newspaper, quoting Mohammed Saif Al Zafeen, Assistant Commander for Operations, Dubai Police and Director of the Federal Traffic Council, the ratio of colouring the windshield will only be 5.5 inches.

Truck fines
The council studied several recommendations, including increasing the values of fines imposed on trucks that violate traffic regulations. He added that fines will start from Dh1,500 and go up according to the type of violation.

He added that the Federal Traffic Council also recommended increasing the following fines:

-    Stopping cars on the road from Dh500 to Dh1,000

-    Noise violation while driving from Dh500 to Dh1000, and 12 black points

-    Modifying car engines of vehicles without permission from Dh400 to Dh1,000, and 12 black points. He added that for this violation, the car will be impounded for a month.

The council has also recommended:

-     Fines for throwing waste from vehicles from Dh500 to Dh1,000. The same rule applies with regard to vehicle emissions.

-    Extra margin of speed limit across all UAE roads to be 10km for trucks, taxis, buses, and 20km for light vehicles

 -    Owners of cars will be obliged to allocate seats in vehicles for children from one day old up to 4-years-old
