An Abu Dhabi-bound flight made an emergency landing in Chennai early on Saturday after one its passengers complained of severe chest pain.

According to airport sources, the Air Berlin Kuala Lumpur-Abu Dhabi flight was crossing Chennai airspace when Paul Reiss, a German national, experienced severe pain in his chest and abdomen.

As the crew feared that he was having a heart attack, they requested the Air Traffic Control at Chennai if they could make an emergency landing.

Once they obtained the clearance, the plane that was carrying 186 people landed a little past midnight. Paul was rushed to the medical centre at airport and was given emergency care.

He was later transported to a private hospital and kept under observation. The flight departed to Abu Dhabi at 3.15 am, one passenger short.
