His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, received former US President Bill Clinton at his resort in Al Marmoum on Sunday.
Clinton is currently visiting the UAE at the invitation of the Middle East and North African Diabetes Leadership Forum, which kicks off in Dubai on Monday under the patronage of Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai.
During their meeting Sheikh Mohammed and Clinton exchanged views on a number of issues related to healthcare and education around the world, including the role played by civil institutions and communities in supporting vital concerns in these fields.
The former US President praised the UAE's efforts in alleviating suffering in poor communities around the world by providing aid and undertaking humanitarian initiatives through the country's many charitable organisations.
The meeting was attended by Sheikh Hamdan, Chairman of Dubai Civil Aviation and Chief Executive of Emirates Group Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Cabinet Affairs Minister Mohammed Abdullah Al Gergawi, Director of Dubai Ruler's Office Lt General Musabbah Rashid Al Fattan and other senior officials.
Cabineet meet
The Federal Cabinet on Sunday passed the agreement signed between the UAE and UK for cooperation in peaceful use of nuclear energy and an extradition treaty inked by the UAE with Pakistan.
The meeting, which took place at the Presidential Palace, was chaired by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and attended by Lt General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, and Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs.
The cabinet also gave its consent to the estimated budget of the General Pension and Social Security Authority (GPSSA) for the fiscal year 2011.
The budget estimated revenues at Dh3.98 billion and expenditure at Dh3.67 billion. A request by the Federal National Council for debating the GPSSA's policy was also approved.
The ministers reviewed recommendations put forward by the Federal National Council on registration of veterinary medicines and hike in prices of commodities and services resulted from the recent rise in petrol prices.
