Mohammed launches book of '40 desert poems'

On the 40th anniversary of the nation, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai launched a limited edition book of poems at The Ara Gallery, Emaar Boulevard last evening.

Organised by the Dubai Media Office, Sheikh Mohammed launched “40 Poems From The Desert”, a compilation of poems that he has penned himself, adding 13 new works to his previously published material.

The poetry itself takes a page out of Nabati tradition, fusing classical form with contemporary thoughts. Sheikh Mohammed pens his love for his country and his people in some of his works, while others explore themes of patriotism, maternal love and romantic yearning.

The book launch was followed by a tour of an art exhibition, which featured paintings inspired from the “40 Poems From The Desert”. The poems were illustrated by 20 young emerging Emirati artists through specially commissioned works.

Sheikh Mohammed also personally took the time out to autograph the limited edition for those present.

Also present was Ahmad Al Shaikh, Media Escort to His Highness Sheikh Mohammed; Director General of the Media Office and Managing Director of Dubai Media Incorporated, along with other VIPs and dignitaries.

The corresponding art exhibition runs until January 13, 2012 at The Ara Gallery.
