His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, accompanied by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, today honoured winners of the 16th cycle of Dubai Government Excellence Programme (DGEP).

The grand award-giving ceremony at the Dubai World Trade Centre was also attended by Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of Dubai Aviation Authority and Chairman of Emirates Group, and a number of heads of Dubai government departments.

Sheikh Mohammed honoured Khalifa Saeed Salman, Director General of Department of Protocol and Guesthouse, in recognition of advancing government performance.

Sheikh Hamdan praised Khalifa as “known soldier” for his continuous dedication and devotion.

The Dubai Government Excellence Programme Award recognises and rewards exceptional government employees, departments and initiatives.

In his address to the audience, Sheikh Hamdan said the DGEP, which was introduced in 1997, serves as a torch lighting the way for departments to make achievements.

The most three influential achievements of the DGEP, he added, were getting rid of routine in government departments, riding over challenges and creating opportunities and finally delivering excellence in all fields.

Sheikh Mohammed also honoured a number of unsung heroes and shook hands with them and congratulated them for working diligently in silence.

This year's cycle saw Sheikh Mohammed honouring 26 government entities.

Before departing the celebration scene, he said he was filled with positive power and energy, while the audience rose up to chant after him amid cheers and applause.
