HP's ex-CEO Carly Fiorina to run for US President

Former Hewlett Packard chief executive Carly Fiorina said Sunday she is more than "90 per cent" likely to seek the Republican nomination in the 2016 presidential election.

Fiorina, a former advisor to defeated Republican candidate John McCain in the 2008 White House race, told ‘Fox News Sunday’ she was in the process of putting a team and campaign war chest together.

Asked to give an assessment of how likely she was to run for the White House, Fiorina replied: "Very high... higher than 90 per cent."

"We need to make sure we have the right team in place, that we have the right support, that we have the right financial resources lined up," Fiorina said, adding that she expected to declare her candidacy in late April or early May.

Fiorina, 60, headed Hewlett Packard for six years until 2005, when she was forced to resign after the company's share price plummeted.

After acting as an economic advisor to McCain in 2008, she ran an unsuccessful bid to unseat long-serving US Senator Barbara Boxer in 2010.

Although analysts expect a crowded field of challengers for the Republican 2016 ticket, so far only one candidate, staunch conservative Senator Ted Cruz, has formally declared his intention to run.
