Man dies after car caught in desert sand

An Asian man died of thirst and heat exhaustion after his car got stuck in the sand in a Saudi desert, a newspaper reported on Thursday.

The unnamed man, in his 30s, was driving to a construction site when he lost his way and entered a desert area in the eastern region, Sabq said.

Colleagues in the company phoned the police after receiving a call from the man saying his car was caught in sand and he had no water.

“After a search operation, police found the man dead of thirst and exhaustion nearly four kilometers from his car,” the paper said. “The man had apparently tried to walk back home but could not make it.”
