Accidental deaths: Baby slips from mom into sea

A Bangladeshi woman having an evening stroll on the beach with her six-month-old son in Saudi Arabia was struck with disaster when her leg hit a rock, causing her son to fall off her hands and get swallowed in the sea.

The woman was holding her little son and treading carefully among rocks dotting the shore of the Red Sea port of Amlaj when she stumbled on a rock, causing her to slip down. Her baby slipped off her hands and fell into the water.

Apparently not knowing how to swim, the woman could do nothing except to utter incessant screams as if to tell the sea to give the baby back to her.

Neither the sea nor any one else could respond to the woman who started to go mad as she watched her baby slowly drifting away from her eyes. The area was totally deserted except for the reverberations of her screams.

“After nearly two hours, an Egyptian student aged around 16 years who happened to be passing in that area heard the woman’s scream….he rushed to the place and saw that a little baby was floating away on the water,” the Saudi Arabic language daily Ajel said.

“He jumped into the water and began to swim after the baby….he finally caught the baby nearly 300 metres away from the beach but the boy was already dead.”

Three kids killed in tent fire in Kuwait

Three Kuwaiti children aged below five years were killed in a massive fire that destroyed their tent just next to the tent where their father and other family members were sleeping, a newspaper reported on Saturday.

The blaze was apparently caused by sparks from a coal fireplace left in the kids’ tent and police said the housemaid who was sleeping with the children escaped with serious injuries and was taken to hospital.

Police, quoted by 'Al Anba' newspaper, said the children aged two, three and five years, were apparently killed by smoke before the tent was destroyed by the fire and their bodies were charred.

“The fire occurred at a camp in Khuwaisat area outside Kuwait City and police said the father has also been taken to hospital after suffering from nervous breakdown,” the paper said.
