Autumn season will begin on Friday in the oil-rich Gulf and the rest of the Arab region and is expected to continue for nearly 89 days, Saudi Arabia’s main astronomy group said on Wednesday.

The season, which marks the end of the scorching summer in the desert Gulf nations, will start exactly at 12.04 pm Saudi time (11.04 am UAE time) on September 23, the Jeddah-based Saudi Astronomy Association said in a statement published in the Saudi Arabic language daily Sharq.

“Autumn will begin in the GCC and the Arab region on Friday at 14.04 pm Saudi time just around 10 minutes before noon prayers at the Grand Mosque in Makkah…it will continue for 89 days and 12 hours,” it said.

“On that day, night and day will be equal at 12 hours in the region and the northern hemisphere. In the southern hemisphere, it will be the start of spring.”
