Brain-dead woman gives birth to healthy boy

A pregnant Saudi woman diagnosed as brain dead gave birth to a healthy boy in a Caesarian operation but doctors still can not explain her condition, the Saudi Kabar Arabic language online paper reported on Saturday.

The woman was admitted to King Abdul Aziz Hospital in the western Red Sea port of Jeddah and diagnosed by doctors as brain dead, it said.

“Initial examination showed the unidentified woman is brain dead but we managed to save the baby boy, who was born in an excellent condition,” said Dr Sami Badoud, Director Jeddah’s health services.

“We still do not know the reasons why she is brain dead…but our quick intervention saved the baby’s life.”
