A Kuwaiti man has collected more than 45,000 old Arabian coffee pots since he developed this hobby nearly 46 years ago, a local daily reported on Monday.
Munis Al Anzi started his hobby in 1964 when he bought 10 traditional coffee pots for KD6 (Dh75), nearly 15 per cent of his KD45 monthly salary.
“I started with 10 pots and developed a strong desire to possess more. My collection includes all types of coffee pots from different countries,” Al Anzi told the Kuwaiti daily Al Anba.
“One of the pots dates back more than 400 years… two others were gifted to me by an American diver who retrieved them from an Arabian dhow that seems to have sunken in the Gulf in 1912,” he said.
Al Anzi said he had been approached by a Saudi businessman to buy his entire collection for SR8 million (Dh8m) but he refused to sell.
Asked if he has received government support for his hobby, he said: “No… never. I don’t want their support… I just want them to leave me alone.”
