Surprise Eid gift for wife - divorce

A Saudi husband decided to give a surprise gift to his wife on the first day of Eid Al Fitr that marked the end of the fasting month of Ramadan.

The present did surprise the woman for it was divorce.

Saudi newspapers said Sunday that the man in the northern border town of Hafr Al Batin was infuriated by his wife's excessive demands on the Eid occasion and divorced her although they have two children.

"It was a heavyweight present," the Arabic language daily Aljazeera said.

"The husband expressed his protest at his wife's demands for money and presents on Eid by divorcing her despite pleas by his two children."
