Samsung dealers intend to start marketing the much-awaited Galaxy S6 on April 10 after reporting strong pre-order demand for the handset.
Dealers at an electronics show in Abu Dhabi said thousands of customers have booked the handset for Dh200 and that they would receive them on April 8.
Demand was highest for the gold and white versions of the handset, according to the dealers, who said those versions have already run out of the current stock.
“The Galaxy S6 will out in shops in the UAE on April 10. Those who paid Dh200 to book the handset will be able to receive it on April 8,” said an employee at the Samsung stand in the four-day Abu Dhabi Electronics Shopper, which ended on Saturday.
Scores of visitors at the show packed the Samsung stand to see a demonstration of the S6, one of the most expensive smart phones in the market.
The dealers confirmed that the Galaxy S6 32GB will retail at Dh2,599 and the Galaxy S6 64GB will retail at Dh2,899.
The Galaxy S6 Duos 32GB will retail at Dh2,699 and the Galaxy S6 Duos 64GB at Dh2,999.
The Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge, the most expensive handset in the series, will be available in three models.
The Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge 32GB will retail at Dh3,099, the Galaxy S6 Edge 64GB at Dh3,399 and the Galaxy S6 Edge 128GB at Dh3,799.
More than 50 companies, including retail giants Sharaf DG, Plug-Ins and Jacky Retail, showcased mobile phones, computers, cameras and other products at the annual show, the largest consumer electronics exhibition in Abu Dhabi.
In 2014, the event attracted 35 exhibitors and close to 60,000 visitors, generating nearly Dh35 million in total sales value.
Organisers said the show was held at a time when the UAE’s domestic consumer electronics market is expected to increase in value to $4.8 billion by end of 2015.
