April festivities in the picturesque Sri Lankan hill city of Nuwaraeliya, popularly known as “Little England”, will be held under the patronage of Central Province Governor Tikiri Kobbekaduwa and Minister Navin Dissanayake as guest of honour, with over 30 school bands together with police and army bands parading the streets.
The ‘Daily News’ reported that the Nuwaraeliya Municipal Council is organising the April festive season with the help of the April Festivities Committee and other sports and community organisations.
A traditional flower show by the municipal council is the highlight of the April season’s festivities besides events such as horse and car racing, regatta, houseboat tours and golf and tennis tournaments.
Exotic flowers have been grown by a number of horticulturists and leading hotels, motels and guest houses participating in the flower competition, where the municipal council will recognise them with prizes and trophies.
To meet the demands of big holiday crowds, both local and foreigners, Nuwaraeliya Government Agent D. G. P. Kumarasiri and Mayor Mahinda Kumara Dissanayake have requested the trading community to keep sufficient stocks of food products.
A large number of local and foreign holiday makers are seen in Nuwaraeliya these days while seasonal attractions are centered around Lake Gregory.
