“The great escape” from Kuwaiti prison

Kuwaiti authorities have opened investigation to find out how a prisoner eluded guards and disappeared from the central prison without a trace.

The unnamed prisoner from Saudi Arabia is believed to have hidden at the prison’s mosque at night before jumping over the prison walls in Kuwait City and fleeing under the cover of night.

“Authorities have ordered an investigation into the escape of a Gulf prisoner who is convicted of drug dealing,” the Arabic language daily Alanba said.

“Authorities appear to have imposed a news blackout about the escape…although the man is believed to have escaped on Friday, news of the escape began reaching the media last night…..it seems that the prison authorities have just noticed his disappearance.”

The paper said authorities are interrogating a friend of the escaped prisoner while his name has been reported to all border points and outlets to prevent him from leaving Kuwait.
