Van flips over in Dubai

A van has flipped on its side on Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road in Dubai, causing ‘major traffic tailbacks’ on the busy highway this morning, in the direction of Abu Dhabi.

Dubai Ambulance and police are on the scene, with the latter confirming the incident, stating: “An accident [has occurred] on Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road after Dubai-Al Ain Bridge toward Jebal Ali; traffic congestion is reported.”

The police also stated the accident has occurred between “several cars” without giving further details.
Eyewitnesses state the vehicle hit the central barrier and flipped onto its side, blocking the extreme left lane on the busy highway.

The incident is coupled with a second “major crash on SMBZR, before Global Village towards Abu Dhabi causing congestion and tailback,” reported another on Twitter.

The accident occurred around 7.30am and the traffic situation persisted hours later, with Saher  Munawar tweeting around 9.30am: “Please avoid SMBZR if you can.”

Meanwhile, congestion is also being reported coming out of the tunnel in front of World Trade Centre, Zabeel–bound.
