Motorists who have a tire blast while driving should not press the brakes forcefully as this could cause their vehicle to overturn in case of high speed, according to experts.
Quoted by the semi official daily Alittihad, they advised drivers to clutch the wheel forcefully, take their legs off the petrol pedal and use the brakes gently to gradually bring the car to a standstill.
“The first thing drivers must do is to keep their composure because a tire blast does not necessary mean they have lost control of the car,” the paper said, quoting the unnamed experts.
“They then should not put much pressure on the brakes, take their fee off the accelerator and clutch the wheel forcefully to prevent the car from swerving and possibly overturning.”
Tire blast accidents in the UAE and other Gulf desert countries increase during summer because of soaring temperatures, which could top 50 degrees on asphalted roads.
During a recent seminar in Abu Dhabi, a senior traffic police officer advised motorists not to overfill their tires with air to avert a blast.
