Anna Hazare supporters denied bail in Dubai

Indian activist Anna Hazare waves to his supporters during his anti-corruption hunger strike at Ram Lila grounds in New Delhi. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's government has been left floundering by a national swell of support for Hazare's campaign, with many Indians saying years of anger at corrupt officials had reached boiling point. Dubai Public Prosecution has rejected bail pleas of five Indian supporters of Anna Hazare who had organised a march in favour of the anti-graft activist in Al Mamzar Park on August 20 without obtaining prior permission from the authorities, local media reports said.

The alleged organiser RD was detained at the event while two more HJ and S were arrested by Dubai police on Tuesday. Two more were arrested on Wednesday.

Advocate Hashiq TK, who represented three of the accused, said that the prosecution rejected bail pleas as investigation is not yet complete. The men have been arrested on charges of unlawful assembly, a serious offence under the security laws of UAE, he was quoted as saying by the media.

The case will now be heard after Eid holidays.
