Docs fighting to save Malayalam star Jagathy

Famed Malayalam actor Jagathy Sreekumar, who is responding well to treatment following a near-fatal road accident on March 10, will undergo three multiple bone surgeries today, reported doctors at the Malabar Institute of Medical Sciences (MIMS) hospital.

Dr Abdulla Cherakkat, Managing Director of MIMS, confirmed that the surgeries will be done to correct a fracture on his right thigh, right hand and hip.“He is responding well to treatment and his blood pressure and kidney are functioning normally,” he said, adding, “He would be kept on the ventilator for one more day for safety reasons."

The actor was enroute to Kodagu in Karnataka, to a Malayalam film set Idavapathy, when his car slammed into a road median and overturned. The driver, who was also injured in the accident, is reported to be out of danger and recovering well.
