Indonesia’s minister of communications has stepped up his war against pornography, saying Blackberry can say goodbye to his predominantly Muslim country unless it blocks access to adult sites.
The comments by Tifatul Sembiring, known for his conservative views, were made to his 80,000 followers on Twitter.
He could not be reached for comment Wednesday and officials in his ministry said they wanted to seek further clarification.
Sembiring has made it his mission to clean up cyberspace, following the lead of countries such as China and Singapore that strictly control what is on the Web.
He has asked local service providers to start blocking pornography, at least for the Islamic holy month of Ramadan, which is at its midway point, but has had little success so far.
