Officials say a government helicopter disappeared from radar and crashed during a rain storm in northern Thailand and all five on board were believed killed, including senior officials from the environment ministry.

Police Lt. Col. Sawaroj Intarawongchai said Thai rescuers found five corpses early Wednesday near the remnants of the shattered helicopter, which crashed in a rainforest on Tuesday after losing contact with air traffic control.

He said the five bodies were believed to be the passengers on the helicopter but all were crushed beyond recognition and officials wanted to transport them to Bangkok for an autopsy for confirmation.

Aboard the helicopter were two pilots, the ministry’s permanent secretary, its ministry’s inspector-general of National Parks and an adviser to the royal family.
