A Saudi man with an estimated age of 128 years died at his home and local residents said his death meant the loss of an important source of information about the Gulf Kingdom’s history.

Salim Fuhaid Al Areebi died of old age in his southwestern town of Raniya and was survived by four sons aged between 55 and 65 years.

“Salim had witnessed all conquests by late King Abdul Aziz in late 1980s and early 1990s…he also witnessed the accession to throne by several sons of King Abdul Aziz,” said Abdullah Salim Mohammed, a relative of the deceased.

“He was considered one of the most important sources for the history of our country and ancestors,” he added, quoted by Sabq newspaper.

Salim had spent nearly 80 years in plucking palm date trees for local residents before retiring at home and devoting the rest of his life to reading Quran.
