In the world of glamour and glitz you win some and you lose some. A Miss World contestant from Mexico was stripped of her crown. Why? Because she gained just six pounds in weight, she claimed.

Stunning Cynthia de la Vega, 19, came second at the Nuestra Belleza Mundo Mexico beauty pageant last September.

This automatically graduated her to represent her country at the 2011 Miss World competition in November. Well at least that's what she thought!

Speaking at a press conference, De la Vega said organisers of Nuestra Belleza Mundo withdrew her from the international pageant because she failed to lose enough weight.

"I was very sad and very deceived. I cried and cried and cried," she said.

"[They] demanded that I lose a few kilos, but they never provided a nutritionist or any other assistance to ensure the weight loss.

De la Vega did admit gaining some weight. She claims she has been working with personal trainer Luis Rangel to shift the six pounds.

She also said she wasn’t aware of any weight requirements for the competition.

The organisers of Nuestra Belleza Mexico defended their decision. National director for the pageant, Lupita Jones, said in a statement that De la Vega was axed because of her “lack of dedication and discipline."

She "did not comply with the recommendations and goals agreed upon for her preparation", they said.

De la Vega will be replaced at Miss World, held in London, by Gabriela Palacio.
