Brazilian leftback Maxwell looks set to sign for French Ligue 1 leaders Paris Saint Germain after the club reached agreement with his present side Barcelona over the transfer on Wednesday.

The 30-year-old - a Champions League winner with Barcelona last year - is due in Paris to discuss personal terms and undergo a medical with PSG according to the Spanish champions.

"After reaching agreement in principle with PSG over the transfer of Maxwell, the player will fly to Paris today (Wednesday) to sort out the final details of the contract," read a statement by Barcelona.

"Once these details are ironed out, he will undergo a medical and finalise his transfer."

Earlier Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola had admitted that the former Ajax and Inter Milan player - never capped at senior level - had sought a move away after being frozen out by Frenchman Eric Abidal and another Brazilian Adriano.

"He is not happy here, simply because he has not had the playing time he would have liked," said Guardiola, who was earlier this week named world coach of the year.

"If he does leave, we wish him good luck, he is an exemplary person.

"He had a superb first season (2009/10). The second he played less because he had several injuries which blunted his effectiveness."

PSG are in need of a leftback as Ivory Coast international Siaka Tiene has left for the Africa Cup of Nations.
