Safa Park is set to become one of Dubai’s prime residential communities, with its own crystal lagoon and man-made beach.

The master plan of Dubai Water Canal, a waterway that connects Business Bay with the Arabian Gulf, will include a four-tower complex – Crystal Lagoon Towers (for now), offering hundreds of freehold apartments while the striking Gate Towers, a mixed-use tower, will serve as the gateway to the canal.

“We are building two out of the four Crystal Lagoon Towers (remaining two towers will be developed by Meraas Holding), which will have its own crystal lagoon and a man-made beach,” Mohammad Al Khayat, Vice-President, Commercial and Free Zone, Meydan Group, told Emirates 24|7.

“The size of the lagoon and the beach is still being worked out,” he added.

Mixed-use Gate Tower

The Gate Tower, again co-developed by Meydan and Meraas, will consist of 500,000 square feet of retail area located in the bridge that will connect the two towers.

“It is almost the size of Mercato and will serve the Dubai Water Canal community,” Al Khayat revealed.

As per the initial design, the residential component of the tower will comprise 1,100 to 1,200 units. Work is on to finalise the hotel details.

Al Khayat disclosed that Safa Park would be developed in two zones - A and B – with each of them having a combination of residential and retail units.

“The boulevard offers us a stretch of almost 8 kilometres on the both sides.

“We will build low-rise buildings near to the Al Wasl area, while mid-to-high rise development will dot the area near to the beach on Jumeirah and Sheikh Zayed Road.”

The two developers will also build boutique hotels next to the canal, the official said, without giving further details.

Work on 24|7

Work is in full swing on the Dh7.34-billion Dubai Water Canal with the RTA already awarding contracts for the three phases and working on elevating Sheikh Zayed Road, Jumeirah and Al Wasl.

Once completed, the Dubai Water Canal will add six kilometres to the Dubai waterfront.

The canal will measure six metres deep, while bridges will be built eight metres high to allow the passing of yachts and marine craft measuring 200 meters in length.

“We expect to complete the entire project by 2020,” Al Khayat revealed.
