A delivery boy of Al Madina Supermarket near Al Khan roundabout in Sharjah is undergoing treatment in a Sharjah hospital after he was waylaid and stabbed by two unidentified assailants on Tuesday night.

The delivery boy, Noushad, 26, sustained serious injuries on his neck and shoulders following a scuffle with the “tall, dark and young” men who approached him in the guise of CID inspectors, said a source at the supermarket.

The incident happened at about 11.30pm on Tuesday when Noushad was stopped by the two men, who came on a motor bike without a number plate, said the source.

Noushad was riding a bicycle on his way to deliver an order Arabian Gulf building, not far away from the supermarket.

“The criminals said they were police inspectors and asked Noushad to show his labour card,” said sources at Al Madina.

“When he refused to show the labour card, they asked him to hand over Dh300 that they found in his pocket. Even though he handed over Dh300, the duo was not satisfied and asked him to hand over his wallet that contained more cash.

“When he refused, a scuffle followed and one guy took out a knife and stabbed him a few times on his shoulder and absconded with the money,” said sources.

It happened in the interior roads near the Al Khan bridge, a residential pocket in Sharjah. The injured delivery boy was rushed to Kuwait Hospital where he is recovering now.

“He sustained stab injuries on his shoulder and back, which are deep. He is recovering and doctors will confirm whether he would need a surgery.”

Delivery boys are reluctant to take home delivery orders after 10pm due to repeated thefts of delivery bicycles and parcels.

“He was lying in a pool of blood, but somehow managed to call us. When we reached the spot, he was almost unconscious. We called an ambulance and he was rushed to Kuwait Hospital,” said Abu Baker, manager of Al Madina Supermarket.

Recently, Sharjah has seen an increase in the number of street crime. Emirates 24|7 had reported a day light robbery in Rolla, where a gold chain was snatched from two women who were on way to home from work.

Similarly, there were a couple of instances were thieves targeted people withdrawing cash from bank ATMs, especially in the National Paints and industrial areas.

A few months ago, a group of shop owners helped Sharjah Police nab a group of robbers who forcibly entered small shops and groceries and took away cash, telephone cards and other valuables.
