Sachin Tendulkar returned to form but Mumbai Indians suffered their third defeat in four matches in the Champions League Twenty20 losing to to Sydney Sixers by 12 runs at Kingsmead on Monday.

Chasing a modest target of 137, Mumbai fail to capitalise on a solid start of 52 runs in 8.2 overs given by Tendulkar and Dwayne Smith finishing on 124 for eight.

Smith top-scored with 28-ball 26

Tendulkar contributed 22 off 23 balls with three boundaries and a six before being castled by talented Aussie all-rounder Moises Henriques.

It turned out to be in vain as the Mumbai middle order collapsed with Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins doing the damage.

Mumbai kept on losing wickets at regular intervals as Rohit Sharma (16), Dinesh Karthik (18), Kieron Pollard (4) and Thisara Perera (2) failed to make any substantial contribution with the bat.

It was a disastrous end to Mumbai Indians' campaign.

Earlier, Lasith Malinga and Munaf Patel bagged a brace each to restrict Sydney to a modest 136 for seven.

Steven Smith top-scored for Sydney with a run-a-ball 41 and together with Nic Maddinson (27) added 36 runs for the fourth wicket.
