It will be a shock signing to say the least. And not just because it involves an ageing star.
Reports in the British press today linked Arsenal with Italian star Alessandro Del Piero who calling time on his 19-year stay at Juventus.
The Italian legend is out of contract with the Turin giants this summer and has not been offered an extention.
QPR, Blackburn Paris Saint-Germain and most surprisingly Arsenal have been linked with Del Piero.
The Daily Mail said Arsenal have emerged as shock contenders for Del Piero's signature, quoting Sky Sports.
Del Piero's brother and agent, Stefano, told Italian media Ilsussidiario.net: “There is no news at the moment but all the doors are open for a move away from Turin.
'There are no restrictions from our part. It all depends on what type of project a club has and what is exactly behind the proposal and the kind of football which would attract Alex, but the main interest is the project.”
This news for Arsenal fans comes on the heels of reports that Lukas Podolski has cast doubts over his proposed summer move to Arsenal by claiming he would be interested in joining Lazio.
The Gunners were reported to have agreed a £10.9million fee with Cologne and to be close to finalising personal terms with the Germany striker.
But Podolski has yet to make a decision about his future and could join international team-mate Miroslav Klose in Rome.
“It would be great to play alongside him again. Miro has spoken well of Lazio and he’s happy in Rome,” Podolski told Corriere dello Sport.
