Manchester City have received a remarkable £37 million offer for Carlos Tevez from his former club Corinthians, according to the 'Daily Mail'.

With the Brazilian transfer deadline in 10 days, they hope to force through a deal.

Corinthians, who broke their transfer record when they bought Tevez for the first time, from Boca Juniors for £13.7m in 2005, are funding the new bid with sponsorship and TV rights money.

With a new training centre and 68,000-capacity stadium that is costing £310m to build and is due to open in 2013, they expect to become the biggest club in South America and see Tevez as central to their ambitions.

Tevez says he would be happy to return to Corinthians after the Brazilian club tabled a £40 million offer for the City striker, according to another report.

Tevez, dropped for Argentina's 3-0 Copa America win over Costa Rica on Monday, declared earlier this month that he wished to leave City for the sake of his family.

With none of Europe's leading clubs apparently interested in spending £50 million to sign the City captain, it was starting to look like Tevez might spend next season at the renamed Etihad Stadium after all.

However, news has now arrived of Corinthians' interest with Tevez telling Telefe: "If there is interest, I don't have any problem in returning to Corinthians."

Tevez used to play for the Brazilian outfit before heading to West Ham five years ago - the start of a turbulent spell in England that has also involved two seasons at both Manchester clubs.

Modric affair

Meanwhile, The Sun also reported that Chelsea have upped their bid for Luka Modric to £27 million.

That is a £5m increase on their previous offer for the Spurs midfield man. But it is highly unlikely to persuade them to sell.
Modric, 25, has threatened to hand in a transfer request if Tottenham do not agree to flog him.

But there is the chance Manchester rivals City and United could enter the bidding.

Both clubs have been told by Samir Nasri's representatives he is staying at Arsenal, which could see them focus their attentions on Modric.

However, the Croatian has already declared his hand, saying he wants to go to Stamford Bridge.
