Abdullah Al Marzouqi shot an impressive 45 stableford points to win the UAE Nationals Monthly golf tournament, organised by the Emirates Golf Federation, at the Palm Sports Resort Golf course.
Playing with a cool head, the talented golfer scored points on almost all holes to beat his nearest challenger Rabab Al Haj by four points. Salah Almeri finished third with 40 points.
One of the major highlights of the tournament was the presence of Rabab and Eida Al Muhairbi, who recently represented the country’s women team in the Arab Golf Championship in Tunisia. While Rabab played brilliantly to finish runner-up, Eida also made her presence felt by winning the Best Lady golfer award.
Hassan Al Musharrekh, who is fast maturing into a fine player like his brothers Abdullah and Ahmed, scooped the prestigious best gross prize with a score of 73.
The tournament, which attracted a strong field, produced a close battle for top honours in both the A and B divisions. Saif Thabit carded 39 points to win the Division A (0-14 handicap) title while Saif Al Aryani reigned supreme in Division B (15-28), taking the top honours with 39 points.
Saeed Albudoor, general manager of the Emirates Golf Federation, lauded the players for turning up in big numbers to make the event great success. “The scores were pretty good and that amply reflects on the hard work being put by the players to improve their game,” said Albudoor, who himself shot a steady 38 points.
“I would like to thank the Palm Sport Resort management for a presenting the course in great condition. We all had fun and look forward to playing there again in the near future.”
