Global Fighting Championship returns to Dubai

Golden Cage Promotion and Events announced the return of its acclaimed 'Global Fighting Championship' series for its second installment on Friday, May 10th at Hall 5 of the World Trade Center in Dubai.

The fight card features 11 bouts that will include fighters from Australia, Greece, Thailand, Brazil, France, Philippines, and Ghana. Regional talents from Kuwait, Iran, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Morocco and Lebanon will also participate in the event. One of the fights features female fighters.

Two tournaments will take place, the A1 World Grand Prix tournament and the GFC tournament. The winners will square off to determine the final contender for $100,000 prize money at the 2013 A1 Grand Prix to be held in Melbourne, Australia.

Ghazi AlMadani, Sport Tourism Manager at Dubai Sports Council, hailed the growing popularity of Mixed Martial Arts.

“All over the world Martial Arts have shown a huge ascendancy on popularity and we feel that this is the best time to cash in on its growing status in Dubai and the region,” he said. 

He added: “The Middle East in particular has a vast following in Mixed Martial Arts with many youngsters engaged in training, and we at the Dubai Sports Council have always been encouraging such activities that bring out the best in our youth.”

The mastermind of the Global Fighting Championship, Amir Shafiy Pour also known as ‘Prince Amir’ said: “Our aim is to turn Dubai into the Las Vegas of the Middle East. We have some of the best facilities here and achieving our goal should not be too big of a task.”

Prince Amir, a title holder in Muay Thai Boxing, has also trained numerous athletes in the sport in addition to having the distinction of organising over 300 professional sporting events throughout the globe.

The organizers of GFC2 have also added live entertainment to this event, to create a unique atmosphere where both MMA enthusiasts, and other attendees can enjoy and be entertained.

Golden Cage Promotion and Events plans to increase attendance to their events in the 2013-2014 season, and to position the GFC events as the premier fusion of sports and entertainment. The ultimate vision is to utilise its potential to position Dubai as a global hub for the sport.

Tickets for the event will be available at selected Enoc and Eppco Zoom outlets, Virgin Megastores, and online at ITP tickets.
