The high organising committee for World Air Games (WAG), which is sponsored by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of Dubai Sports Council, launched the torch of the event which will take place in Dubai between December 2-12.

It is considered the greatest event in the field of air games, as it will witness the participation of the best world-class athletes participating in 28 competitions in all sorts of aero sports.

The ceremony was done during the international press conference held at Olympic museum in Lausanne, Switzerland, during which the Permanent Representative of the UAE to United Nations Office at Geneva, His Excellency Obaid Salem Saeed Al Zaabi, Saeed Hareb, Chairman of the Committee organising the world games, Yousif Al Hammadi, Manager of the World Games, and John Grubbström, FAI president, gave speeches, in the presence of a number of international sports and media figures.

The delegation of the games' high organising committee travelled to Lausanne to launch the torch of the event that is executed and launched for the very first time in the history of aero sports competitions worldwide. They also met representatives of international media that closely follow up the ongoing preparations to host this international event organised for the very first time in the Middle East.

Yousif Al Hammadi addressing the press conference, said: "This will mark the beginning of the promotional campaign for the world games, the greatest of its kind in the history of aero sports. We also aspire that it will be most successful in terms of organisation and competition, as it is sponsored by HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of Dubai Sports Council, who leads promoting sports in Dubai through his support and sound directives."

"Dubai has become the capital of aerosports and the destination of fans of these sports that combine skill, boldness and adventure. This is due to not only the presence of splendid athletic facilities in terms of layout and geographical location, such as Skydive Dubai Club, but also due to the presence of great support for these sports and great national expertise in these areas, as well as the expanding of the base of those who love and practice aero sports in Dubai," he added.

He made a full presentation supported by photos showing the preparations made for organising the world games and the venues selected to host the competitions, and the distribution of sports on each location. He also talked about the route of the world games' torch and the places it will pass through during the coming days.

Dr. John Grubbström, FAI President, expressed his joy to attend the ceremony of launching the world games' torch.

He said: "Choosing Dubai to host the world games gave us great joy, as I witnessed firsthand how the Emirati people love aero sports and how well the organization is, as well as the spectacular locations that will be venues to the event. I have been to Dubai many times and attended championships that were organized there, among which are the World's Parachuting Championship and Dubai International Parachuting Championship. The organization was excellent and superb. I also attended in Dubai the ceremony of launching the logo of the World Air Games last March and it was a great event."

"Through my observations, my own experience, and that of friends in the UAE, I can easily say that we will witness the greatest organisation of the world games. We also are in close contact with the organising committee and we will also convene here to follow up the ongoing work in the preparations for organizing the world games from every aspect," he added.
