The Tokyo Sky Tree project The new tower becomes the world's tallest freestanding broadcast tower after reaching the height of 1,971 feet, outgrowing the 1,968 feet Canton Tower in China's southwestern city of Guanzhou. The tower will stand 2,080-foot tall when it's completed later this year. (AP)
