A man who served 22 years for murder escaped from a colony in the Irkutsk region on the day he was supposed to be released. A representative of the regional department of the Federal Penitentiary Service announced this on September 18.

His term begins in 2001 and ends in 2023. Was convicted of murder. “I should have been released today,” the interlocutor said in an interview with RIA Novosti.

It is specified that the 49-year-old man was serving his sentence in a colony settlement in the working-class village of Markovo. Less strict rules are established here than in general regime colonies: convicts can move freely around the territory of the correctional institution.

The police are now looking for the man. For escape, he could face up to four years of a new sentence.

As Regnum reported, at the end of August, a prisoner from the city of Alapaevsk escaped from a colony settlement in the Sverdlovsk region. Ivan Grigoriev, born in 1992, was sentenced to five years in prison for committing a fatal accident.

In Blagoveshchensk, a prisoner at pre-trial detention center No. 1 in the Amur Region escaped through the window for receiving packages in the visiting room. The man was sent to clean up. He decided to take advantage of the fact that there was no one nearby. The fugitive independently opened the transmission window and climbed out through it. 22-year-old Roman Zyryanov was serving a sentence for theft and was due to be released in April 2025. An investigation into the escape was launched.
