A young Saudi man who was a member of a stage band that won a famous Arab TV talents contest was killed in a road crash in the Gulf Kingdom just days after he apparently predicted his death, a newspaper reported on Tuesday.

Ali Al Shahri had sent texts to his friends asking them to pray for him if he misses this year’s fasting month of Ramadan because of his possible death.

“If Ramadan comes in my absence, I ask you to pray for me while you wait for prayers calls at dawn and in the evening,” Shahri had told his friends.

Shahri was a member of a 12-man stage band called “Dark Thoughts” that was among the winners of a famous Arab TV talents contest dubbed “Arabs got talent.” The band has won acclaim through the Arab world and is due to perform in Sharjah next week.

“Ali died just days after he asked his friends to pray for him as if he had predicted his demise,” the Saudi daily Sharq said, adding that Shahri was killed in a road accident in the Western Red Sea town of Jeddah last Tuesday.
